If you are relatively new to SEO,What are Meta Titles? Articles then you will likely have no idea what Meta titles are.  However, you will want to learn quickly, especially if you want to increase your ranking in the search engines.

You want to give every page on your site a relevant title.  It has to convey what the page is actually about.  You should be aware that Meta titles appear as text in the search results.  Therefore, they are one of the first things the potential visitors see about your link.

With this in mind, you will want to make sure to use Meta titles appropriately in order to make a good first impression.  Searchers will be looking for specific information, and they will likely click on your link if the title appears to be what they are looking for.

You need to make sure you use interesting Meta titles.  Depending on the subject, people are far less likely to click on links they find uninteresting.  The title of your page needs to entice users to click.

It is very important for your title to not be misleading.  You should not just create one in hopes of getting as many visitors to click on it as possible.  Once they get to your page and find out they have been duped, they will quickly hit the back button.  There is no point in getting visitors if they do not stick around for long.

You should also know not to write exceptionally lengthy titles.  Most search engines will only show a certain number of characters for your title.  Any characters after this limit will be truncated.  The average character limit is about 70.

The keywords your page is targeting need to appear in the title.  Search engines place a lot of importance on keywords and Meta titles.  Your keywords should appear closer to the beginning of the title rather than the end.  It is also in your best interests not to repeat your keywords because you may be viewed as a spammer.

Do not make the mistake of giving all of the pages on your website the same Meta titles either.  All of your pages need to have not only unique content, but unique titles as well.

Hopefully, now you understand the importance of using Meta titles for your pages.  Make sure they are relevant to the pages they represent.  You should also use your keyword or phrase as soon as you can in the title.
