Bournemouth life-coaching expert Sue Terry has revealed her formula for relationship counselling as figures show that nearly half of marriages and civil partnerships in the United Kingdom result in divorce.
Sue, who manages the Bournemouth life coaching company New Horizons, said that personal relationships break down for a variety of reasons including: work related stress, tension within the family, loss of respect or trust, feelings of growing apart or a poor level of communication.
The Bournemouth- based life coach said that meeting in a neutral and non-judgemental environment is critical if people are to feel at ease speaking openly about their relationship issues.
A good counsellor will also help to optimise a person’s listening skills so he or she can empathise with their partner’s position – thus helping to identify the common ground between them, Sue revealed.
The final stage is the progression phase: partners must look to the future and not dwell on the past in order to realise their shared “dreams, values and aspirations,” she said.
However, sometimes this isn’t possible and partners will choose to separate, but in many cases this is a constructive development and should not always be viewed negatively, said Sue.
Sue, who has many years of experience running life coaching courses in Bournemouth and beyond, said: “"I've been through divorce, raised three children, and integrated two families within a new relationship - so I understand the issues and emotions that people face.
“I want to give people new confidence, new goals and new hope for the future” she added.
Many commentators blame the fast pace of modern life for the increased failure of the more traditional family unit, which in the past has been a staple feature of middle class life in Britain.
It would seem that life coaching in Bournemouth and other areas of middle England is here to stay.
