Olympus set out to outdo their competitors with the E-series DSLRs. They claimed that competitors’ cameras were entirely too bulky and they did not need to be. Hence, the E-series was born in 2002.

In this Olympus E5 review,A Durable and Practical DSLR: Olympus E5 Review Articles we take a look at how Olympus embraced new digital technology with an image sensor called the Four Thirds MOS, which is smaller than the standard APS-C sensors used by the competition. The claim was that the smaller sensor would give smaller DSLR cameras true capabilities befitting a digital camera.

Olympus E5 review Shows the Proof and the Truth

As it turns out, the Four Thirds image sensor delivered the equivalency of a 28-84mm 35mm lens, doubling the focal length. The E5 not only features this lens but also produces high-resolution photos, according to reports. The ISO range is 100-6400 and a bit of a disappointment in the light of rivals. It is a bulky camera for the most part, but those who are used to such camera sizes will not even notice. With a 12.3-megapixel sensor and TruePic V+ image processing system, Olympus claims that it proves enhanced detail. Not only one Olympus E5 review will agree, but many will. At the same time, other reviews will not. The E5 is a bit bulky but yields good images. The tilt and swivel 3-inch LCD with Live View is perfect for motion photography and also displays the image you will see on the photo or video itself at a resolution of 920,000 dots.

The E5 Has an Intuitive AF Feature

The auto focus (AF) mode is an 11-point AF system, and the E5 will focus and fix on a target subject in less than a second. Rather than an AM/MF switch, the manual focus ring sets manual focus for motion shots with fine tuning capabilities. Use of this camera has an intuitive feel.

Users of the E5 Speak Out

Final Thoughts on the E5

Overall, when you read more than one Olympus E5 review, you will see that reviews are mixed and express mostly praise for the E5, but also some disappointments. As an entry-level camera, this DSLR is excellent, but seasoned photographers may be more critical.
