They are now do-it-all machines that can surf the web, make phone calls and do all different kinds of applications as well. There is one thing that has not changed over the years when it comes to cell phones, the fact that they all need batteries. There are many different kinds of batteries that are used to power cell phones.

The most affordable cell phone batteries on the market are Nickel Cadmium batteries. They are not as environmentally friendly as other cell phone batteries because of the Cadmium. It is best to let the batteries run all the way down before recharging as well because they will lose a little bit of their length of life each time that they are completely discharged before being recharged. This is called "memory effect". They also need to be recharged more often than other rechargeable batteries, which is probably why they are less expensive than other batteries on the market.

For a little better "memory effect" and a more environmentally friendly battery you may want to look into a Nickel Metal Hydride battery. They have a better recharge rate than the Nickel Cadmium batteries. They are also much more environmentally friendly because they don't have any Cadmium in them.

The most common rechargeable batteries on the market are called Lithium Ion batteries. They are much smaller than some of their counterparts. They are definitely more expensive than the previous two models mentioned. But, this is for good reason. They do not experience any memory effect at all and have a much longer life than Nickel Hydride or Nickel Cadmium batteries.

The newest and best performing batteries on the market are called Lithium Polymer batteries. They are extremely light weight batteries that experience no memory effect at all. They also have the longest battery life of any cell phone battery and are much more safe for the environment than their counterparts.
