1. SYSTEM CONFIGURATION UTILITY (SLOW SPEED)

• Disk cleanup

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup

• Defragment the hard drive

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter

 If both these things do not fix the problem, go for tweaking the startup:

• Start > Run > Type 'msconfig
• System configuration utility will open
• Select the "General" tab and put a check in the box next to "Selective Startup
• Click "Startup" tab
• A list of programs that are running in the background will pop up

All of these programs automatically start when the system is turn on. To get some of the resources, uncheck some of the programs. However, do not uncheck any Windows system applications.
