Qualcomm Ships Nearly 1.3 Million Chips per Day, 20% Annual Revenue Put into R&D

In the recent released Q3’11 financial report of Qualcomm, the shipments of Qualcomm MSM chips in this quarter have reached 120 million units, up 17% by comparing with the same period last year, which means that Qualcomm ships nearly 1.3 million chips per day.

2011 Revenue Is Expected to Increase to $15 Billion

This quarter revenue of Qualcomm has been $3.62 billion,Qualcomm Ships Nearly 1.3 Million Chips per Day, 20% Annual Revenue Put into R&D Articles with an increasing of 34% by Q/Q, whose revenue hit the high record again. Since the rapid growth of quarter revenue, after up-regulation of revenue expectation in the Q2 of 2011, Qualcomm announced again to regulate the revenue expectation of 2011 up to $15 billion.According to Bill Davidson, senior vice president of global marketing and investor relations for Qualcomm Incorporated, one important for the rapid growth of its revenue and business is the fast growing of smartphones. After reconfirmed the former expectation to the market, based on CDMA technology terminal, the chip shipments will be around 775 million units in 2011.Judging from Gartner Statistics, in the first quarter of 2011, the shipments of global smartphones have surpassed 100 million sets, growing 85% by comparing with the same quarter of last year.Among the numerous smartphones, Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets are the most worthy of the end-users' choice. At present, as for the use of Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipsets terminal, the number for commercial use has been more than 125 models, and meanwhile, there are still about 250 models are being designed or produced now.In addition, so far, 10 models which have adopted Qualcomm dual-core Snapdragon chipset have been released or even put into terminal business, and there are still above 100 models under the process of design. Among these 10 models tablet PCs that have been released or put into terminal business, 4 models use dual-core MSM8660 chip.

20% Annual Revenue Put into R&DQualcomm is the first semiconductor manufacturers to launch LTE chip products, and supports LTETDD and LTEFDD as well.So far, around the world, 24 commercial LTE networks have been launched, and 218 operators in 81 countries are or are ready to invest in constructing LTE network. According to the third-party statistics, the number for LTE terminals which has been commercially available or in the production process has reached 137 models, which are mainly from 42 manufacturers.Bill Davidson expressed, in the LTE, Qualcomm has put the biggest strength and efforts in R&D. In manpower, LTE R&D team is the currently largest one in Qualcomm. Then, in financial resources, Qualcomm put 20% of its annual revenue per year into R&D, and large-scale on-going R&D investment is the guarantee for Qualcomm technology and products to stay ahead.
