One of the "must see" when you get to Khao Sok National Park is Cheiw Larn Lake or Ratchaprapa damn for its new name. Originally, this area was a mountain range until the damn was built in 1986 so the area flooded. It's about 30 kilometres long with 90 metres in depth. Since it has been flooded, it also left with different kind of scenery with limestone islands in the lake.
There are raft houses along the lake that people can stay overnight. The best season to stay in the raft house is in winter. It take about 60 kilometres by local speed boat to the raft house. The good thing here is there are only 2-3 raft house resorts in the lake so it lets visitors like us to feel a tranquil atmosphere and the area is pretty well preserved and well protected. On the way to the raft house, we can see the water in emerald green, very impressive!
The raft houses where we stayed were made of bamboo and the toilet was situated on a hill on the adjacent island. So I recommend you to have a shower or necessary things you need to do before dark. Because you wouldn't expect what you will see around the toilet. Since it locates in the national park (forgot to mentioned that Khao Sok is one of the oldest rainforest in the world), you wil have a chance to see any kind of creatures including spiders, lizards, frogs, gibbons, and hundreds of flies that you don't expect to see. Staying in the raft houses, a torch is essential. Although there's electricity but it's very limited and there's no light on the way to the toilet. All of raft houses here also provide food included in the package. I really enjoyed their delicious food and the food never been shortage as they served you until you full.
There also some activities to do while we stayed here. There's a jungle night walk that a guide wil take you to the island and hope to see some animals that go out for food during the night. In day timeArticle Search, you can go canoeing across the lake or swimming nearby the raft houses.
Overall it was the best trip so far. Khao Sok is still full of nature and the local protect their land very well for the next generations.
