What to Do in Leeds - Visiting Leeds with your Family

Thinking of visiting Leeds with you family but worries about where to stay and what you will do. Here are a few ideas from a local.

In this series of articles I am suggesting itineraries for people visiting Leeds West Yorkshire (UK) for a day or a few days. Each article covers a different type of itinerary to suite different tastes. This article is aimed at a family with young children visiting Leeds for a weekend. It covers where to stay, what to do and how to save money. Look out for other articles on what to do in Leeds

The first decision a family must  make is always where to stay. The obvious choices are Leeds Serviced Apartments or Leeds Hotels. In the case of a family I would strongly recommend Leeds Serviced Apartments as opposed to a Leeds Hotel. Serviced apartments enable the family unit to stay together rather than the inconvenience of occupying a number of different hotel rooms. This is much more convenient but also makes the cost of the accommodation lower. It also enables some home cooking if this is your thing or if you wish to entertain. This may not appeal to everyone on a weekend away but it does make sense; especially with young children. It also keeps the costs down. Leeds has many serviced apartments which can be found by following the links at the bottom of the page.

As for things to do, Leeds has lots and here is a sample. The Royal Armouries is very popular with families. It’s not just a museum about weapons and war, the Armouries has regular exhibitions and demonstrations including jousting, fencing, and horsemanship. The Royal Armouries is located at Clarence Dock just a few minutes walk from the city centre. It is affiliated with the Tower of London but is much larger. Entrance is free as will all public museums in the UK.

If outdoors is your thing, Leeds boasts the largest metropolitan park in Europe at Roundhay. Roundhay Park has two large lakes, boating, café, museum, cricket (summer only) and is a great place for the kids to run around. It also has a garden for the blind full of scented flowers. Opposite the main entrance to the park is Canal Gardens which contains tropical plants, fish and is a big attraction in Leeds. Roundhay Park is 4 miles to the north of Leeds city centre and has ample free parking. Well worth a visit.

I will be covering eating out in a different Leeds article but wherever you are in Leeds you will find a huge range of cuisine for all tastes and budgets. Look out for special offers available via voucher sites such as Voucher Cloud and Groupon.

Finally, there is plenty to do in Leeds city centre and round about e.g. Royal Armouries which means you do not necessarily require a car. If you do want to go farther a field  you can get busses to most places with no problem. HoweverBusiness Management Articles, if you do wish to come by train the station is right in the city centre and there are plenty of Leeds Serviced Apartments and Leeds Hotels nearby.
