As navigation is a very important part of the website design you should not do so much experience with it. You should put it in the conventional places where the viewers want to or expect see it. If you want to give some categories some added priorities and you want the visitors to much check those categories then you should put the categories’ link on every page of your website. Generally visitors do not prefer to hit the back button to see any link on the previous pages. If you want to display subcategories and want to save some space too then you should use an expanded menu. If visitors clink on a main category they will see the corresponding sub categories of the specific main category. It will save lots of space also.

If you have ecommerce sites then you should not use java script menus unless you know the correct format of it. Another disadvantage with this is many browsers cannot show the java correctly therefore it will be better to go with HTML. At the top of the website put the company information and policy.
