The Best Diets Today - A Short Review

There are many different diet plans today.  Here is a summary of three different categories of diets, and a short evaluation of each.

There are many different diet plans available today, and they will all help you to lose weight. The problem is that not all of them are the best diets for you. Each person has to understand what it is that they hope to accomplish with a diet, and also try to understand how their body responds to the discipline of dieting. Here is a short summary of three categories of diets.

1. Calorie Counting

This is the most basic idea behind dieting. You keep track of the calories that you consume. The idea is that if you consume less, your body will not have excess to store as fat, and maybe will even burn off some extra fat. So, you will lose weight. There are two ways to do this: slow or fast. Diet programs like Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig, try to take the slow approach. They work to help you lose one or two pounds a week using special diets and group reinforcement. The fast approach is basically starvation diets. You drastically cut the your calorie intake to a subsistence level. Then you assume your body will burn off extra fat to make up the difference. For the short term either of these diets may work for you, but it is usually too difficult to maintain because of hunger. Also your body compensates and you will stop losing weight with these methods.

2. High Protein - Low Carb

Carbohydrates get broken down to sugars and easily get stored as fat. The idea behind these diets is to drastically reduce the carbs and get most of your bodies needs from meats an other proteins. The Adkins diet is one of the more famous of this kind of diet. Again, this diet works in the short run, but you really cannot get all that your body needs from protein type foods.

3. Calorie Shifting

The idea behind this diet is to consume both carbohydrates and proteins to get a balanced diet, but it tries to help your body burn calories by shifting the types of food you eat from day to day. The advantage of this diet is that you can lose quickly, you can eat quite a bit and a good variety, and you don't need special foods or payment plans.
