Breast lift surgery is a miracle surgery for older women that have sagging and drooping breasts. It can return your breasts to a much more youthful appearance that can last for many,Before You Have Breast Lift Surgery, You Should Quit Smoking And Drinking Articles many years to come. However, not every woman will make an ideal candidate for breast lift surgery. All surgeries come with some form of risk, and most surgeons will require their patients to curb a few of their vices before they hop onto the operating room table.

Smoking is probably the worst habit a person can have when it comes to having any type of invasive surgery. It wreaks havoc on your immune system, chokes your body's circulation, and severely limits your skin's elasticity. If you don't know what elasticity means, it's your skins "bounce back" ability from being stretched; try pinching and lifting the skin on the back of your hand and then let go of it. The rate at which the skin returns to normal is an indication of your skin's elasticity. The older you get, the longer it takes for your skin to return to its normal look. A teenager has very high skin elasticity – next time you're around one, ask them to pinch the skin on the back of his or her hand and then release it. Then compare its bounce back ability to yours.

Women who have been heavy lifetime smokers are likely to be rejected altogether for breast lift surgery or any type of breast enhancement surgery. Loss of skin elasticity makes it tough for your breast skin to heal from the pulling and stretching that will need to be performed during surgery. If you are a smoker and your surgeon decides to take you on as a patient anyway, he or she will most likely request that you quit smoking for at least 3 or 4 months prior to surgery, and possibly up to 6 months after surgery. Better yet, how about quitting altogether? Your body will thank you for it!

Are you heavy? Do you have excess fat clinging to your body? If you can lose any weight prior to surgery, it will only be beneficial for your surgeon. Excess weight can enhance the chance for complications during surgery. The closer you can be to your ideal weight prior to surgery, the higher the chance that your surgery will be complication free.

Do you drink like a fish? Hopefully you don't, but if you do, you'll need to curb that habit for at least a few weeks prior to surgery. Alcohol does weaken one's immune system, and the stronger your immune system, the better off you are for your surgery. You should also avoid alcohol for at least a few weeks after your surgery to help with your body's recovery process.

The whole point of avoiding alcohol and smoking is to simply assist your body during the invasive surgery and to keep the immune system high during your recovery process. It's that simple. If you can do those two things, recovering from your breast lift procedure shouldn't be too difficult. Of course, you'll need to follow your breast lift surgeon's recovery instructions as well!
