The term “aerial advertising” might seem a bit foreign. Although most of us understand the concept of radio advertising, or even the term “print” advertising, aerial advertising might not be so clear.

In its shortened version,Airplane advertising (also called aerial advertising or, sometimes, beach advertising) Articles aerial advertising refers to any form of outdoor advertising where the ad message appears in the sky somewhere. It includes advertising found on blimps, banners pulled by airplanes or in skywriting.

Airplane advertising

Airplane advertising (also called aerial advertising or, sometimes, beach advertising) is a medium through which thousands of people can be exposed to the ad at one time. Airplane advertising refers to banner towing at the back of an airplane. These banners can be long and thin, or large and rectangular. They are often bright and colorful and carry simple, easy-to-read and easy-to-digest messages.

Aerial ads are usually targeted to specific groups at beaches during the summer and spring break and at sporting events. The benefit of airplane signs over other types of aerial advertising is the sheer novelty of the form and the attention it naturally gets when people see an airplane message down below.

Another advantage that many businesses see in airplane advertising is the value for the dollar. While advertisers might pay each time an ad is run on the radio or in the newspaper, with aerial advertising, the advertiser pays only once for the graphic art and the development of the banner. Each time the banner is flown, the company pays for the flight time, but not for each ad individually.

Skywriting

Like airplane advertising, skywriting is an ad or message that’s flown overhead, but that’s where the similarity ends. While airplane advertising uses aerial banners that are specially designed with custom artwork and special messages, skywriting is a much simpler (and yet also more difficult) process. Skywriting involves the use of messages that are drawn or written in the sky by special smoke.
