Nokia has been rather prolific recently with its Smartphone releases. Handsets such as the Nokia C7 and N8 have shown a step up in the manufacturer’s efforts. Due for release shortly, Nokia E7 looks set to continue this trend and is sure to prove popular.

The dimensions of the handset are 123.7x 62.4x 13.6 mm, and it weighs in at 176 g.  Therefore, the Nokia E7 is a relatively compact and highly portable handset which will easily fit into a handbag or pocket.  The generously sized 4 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen is capable of displaying up to 16M colours within a pixel resolution of 360x 640.  This results in superb quality display of on screen imagery makes a great phone for viewing photos and videos as well as gaming.  The screen also features an accelerometer sensor which automatically rotates the on screen imagery based upon the orientation of the handset.

 

Both MP3 and WAV music files can be assigned as ringtones which operates in conjunction with the standard vibration function to alert users to incoming calls and messages.  A built in speakerphone system and a 3.5 millimetre audio jack allow handsfree conversations to take place with the minimum of effort.  The latter can also be used with earphones for listening to music via the internal media player.

 

A generous 16 GB of internal storage is provided as standard, which essentially eliminates the need for expandable storage such a microSD card slot.  Although a 16 GB is certainly ample for the needs of most users, a handset also features the ability to accommodate USB drives, by the use of a compatible cable.  The internal phonebook can store a practically endless number of contacts and also boasts Photocall functionality.

 

Internet browsing is provided initially via 3G coverage thanks to an HSDPA connection which provides speeds of up to 10.2 Mbps, along with HSUPA at 2 Mbps.  A faster connection can be attained however, thanks to Wi-Fi which allows users or take advantage of local Wireless Networks.  This allows timber harvest browsing experience thanks to the faster modem times.  In order to stay connected to cellular networks, the Nokia E7 utilises both GPRS and EDGE in class 32 versions.

 

The Nokia E7 boasts a superb eight mega pixel digital camera.  This operates at a pixel resolution of 3264x 2448 pixels and comes with a fixed focus, face detection dual-LED flash and geo-tagging.  As an alternative to taking still images, users can shoot video in 720p high definition.  By connecting the handset to a compatible television via the TV-out socket, users can enjoy a handy work on the big screen in full HD.

 

The Symbian 3 operating-system makes another appearance alongside a 680 MHz processor.  A long list of standard features includes a media player, games, radio, document editor and GPS with Ovi maps.

 

As well as the advanced technology within the handset, Nokia has not ignored the aesthetics, with a number of different colour options being available which include dark grey, silver white, orange, blue and green.  The combination of aesthetic appeal and functional technology means the Nokia E7 looks set to be a popular handset upon its upcoming release date.
