Incorporating the Bada operating system for the first time on the Samsung handset, the S8500 Wave offers high levels of everyday functionality within a superbly designed handset.

Up to 16M colours can be displayed upon the 3.3 inch super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, which utilises a pixel layout of 480x 800, resulting in superb display of the on screen imagery.  This makes it perfect for viewing video files and photos especially when combined with the integrated accelerometer sensor which automatically rotates the user interface dependent upon the orientation of the phone, so it can be viewed in both portrait and landscape forms.

Handsfree communication, a 3.5 mm audio Jack is included as standard along with a useful speakerphone system which features a digital natural sound engine for superb sound quality.  If in order to them that users to incoming calls and messages, vibration works alongside ringing with the option for users to utilise their MP3 music files as ringtones so they can customise their phone in order to hear a song of their choice whenever the phone rings.

A large number of music and video files or other data can be stored internally with a generous 1.5 GB of System Storage.  Further storage can be attained by utilising the integrated micro SD card slot which can accommodate a memory card of up to 32 GB.  The internal phonebook can store a large number of contacts and boasts the handy Photocall feature.

The Samsung Wave offers access to the Internet in two forms.  Initially, the handset relies on 3G coverage, which uses an HSDPA connection to provide access to the Internet at speeds up to 7.2 mega bytes per second (along with HSUPA at 2 MB per second).  Wi-Fi Technology is also utilised in order to provide an enhanced browsing experience thanks to the signals provided by wireless Internet routers.  Cellular networks are connected to via both EDGE & GPRS, both of which are provided in class 10 versions.  Bluetooth and micro USB connections are provided as standard with the Samsung Wave, giving users the ability to connect to other hardware devices where they can carry out a range of different tasks.

A superb 5 mega pixel digital camera is included within the handsets hardware.  This comes with a raft of image enhancing features ranging from an LED flash, touch focus, Autofocus, image stabilisation, face, smile & blink detection and even geo-tagging which functions thanks to GPS.  The camera can also shoot video footage, in 720p high definition at 30 frames per second, which is amongst the highest quality footage which can be shot with any camera phone currently on the market.
