Unless you've been living on another planet for the last few months, you will no doubt have heard about the upcoming release of Apple's iPhone 4.

One of the crowning features of the latest Apple handset has to be its 3.5 inch retina screen which boasts unparalleled High Definition display of the onscreen content making it perfect for viewing video files and photos.  As well as the scratch resistant surface, multi touch input method and a proximity sensor the screen also boasts an accelerometer sensor for auto rotate of the on screen content.

As well as MP3 ringtones which can be acquired through iTunes, users are alerted to incoming calls and messages via vibration.  A simple to use speakerphone system offers the opportunity to communicate handsfree whilst a 3.5 MM headset Jack is included for use with handsfree headsets as well as earphones for listening to music via the integrated iPod function.

Whilst there is no micro SD card slot with the iPhone 4, there simply is no need for one. Depending on the model purchased, either 16 GB or 32 GB of storage is available, each offering the potential to store huge amounts of data.  The integrated phonebook can store a practically endless number of contacts and includes the Photocall function which allows users to assign a photo to each contact in the phonebook.

Apple iPhones are well known for their ability to connect to the Internet in all but the most isolated regions.  This is thanks to 3G coverage and Wi-Fi.  In areas covered by 3G, an HSDPA connection provides access to the Internet at speeds of up to 7.2 mega bytes per second along with HSUPA at 5.76 mega bytes per second.  Wi-Fi technology provides a faster Internet connection in areas where signals are available, and a new feature for the iPhone 4 is video calling.  This function utilises Wi-Fi signals to allow users to carry out video called in with other compatible phones which allows each, to view one another on the screen.  Obviously, Bluetooth and USB connections are provided so users can carry out a number of tasks in conjunction with other compatible hardware devices.

Another improvement on previous iPhone models is the camera.  The pixel count has been increased to 5 mega pixels offering the potential to take much high quality images thanks to a pixel resolution of 2592x 1944. Both Autofocus and touch focus are provided to simplify the task of taking quality images.  A led flash is also included if which overcomes the obstacle of low lighting conditions. High Definition video footage can be shot in 720p quality at a rate of 30 frames per second.

Obviously, this review could go on and on about the additional features and applications available.  A brief summary of these includes a 1 GHz Apple A4 processor which can also be found in the iPad. The App Store offers many thousands of free and paid for applications which can turn to this already versatile device into a multimedia powerhouse.
