The HTC Desire has proven to be the most popular Android handset so far for the manufacturer. It’s all round functionality and great aesthetics made it hugely popular, and its specifications even put some more recent Smartphone releases to shame.

The handset measures 119x 60x 11.9 mm,The HTC Desire Is A Powerful All Rounder Articles and is lightweight at 135 g.  The appearance of the handset is superb, with a soft rounded feel in your hand thanks to its curved corners and soft touch finish.  There is a 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, which does a great job of displaying photos and videos, as well as gaming and the user interface itself thanks to up to 16 million colours being displayed within a pixel resolution of 480x 800.  This results in superb quality display.  As well as touchscreen navigation, there is also an optical trackpad which offers an alternative method of navigating HTC Sense user interface.

HTC Sense is an innovative and customisable user interface, which incorporates several neat little touches for making the everyday use that little bit simpler.  For example, if you are in a meeting and your phone rings, you can simply turn the handset upside down which will silence the phone, without hanging up, so you won’t appear rude to the person who is calling.  It also allows up to seven individual homescreens to be customised, ideal for those who have a lot of application and widget icons, whilst they can also be customised with different themes and colour schemes etc.

Whilst the on board memory is 576 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM, there is a microSD card slot which comes with a pre-installed 4 GB card.  This is capable of storing numerous files of several different formats, however users also have the option to replace this with a memory card of up to 32 GB.

The HTC Desire provides a web browsing experience which is fast and reliable.  This initially utilises 3G coverage, whereby an HSDPA connection provides speeds of up to 7.2 MB per second.  A faster connection can be achieved by connecting to local wireless Internet routers via Wi-Fi.  Class 10 GPRS and EDGE keep the handset connected to the appropriate mobile operator’s networks.

The HTC Desire is also a superb camera phone, with a 5 mega pixel camera boasting features such as Autofocus and an LED flash, overcoming the obstacle of taking good quality photos in low lighting conditions.  Users also have the option to shoot video footage, which can be in high definition at 720p quality, should users choose to update to Android 2.2.

The handset ships with Android 2.1 (Eclair) already installed, however users can easily upgrade to version 2.2 (Froyo), the same operating-system featured on the new HTC Desire releases, the HD and Desire Z.  The android operating system works alongside a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (1 GHz), a very popular combination of technologies, which is testament to the user experience it provides.

Thanks to the phenomenal amount for applications which can be downloaded, the HTC Desire is a wonderfully versatile handset, and equally powerful.  Therefore it is easy to see why the HTC Desire is such a popular Smartphone.
