Announced in March 2010 and due for release in the second quarter of 2010, the Samsung I900 Galaxy S boasts an impressive spec list with features ranging from a large touchscreen, heaps of internal storage, 5 mega pixel camera and Wi-Fi Internet access.

The digital camera boasts 5 mega pixels which operates at a pixel resolution of 2592x1944 resulting in excellent detail and clarity of still images.  The Autofocus function is included along with touch focus and face & smile detection making the task of taking photos a breeze.  Video can also be shot using this camera in 720p quality at a rate of 30 frames per second along with a secondary video camera shooting in VGA quality.

Vibration and ringing are the initial means of alerting users to incoming text messages and voice calls, along with the option to utilise MP3 and WAV music files as ringtones.  By taking advantage of this feature, users can hear the song of their choice any time the phone rings.  Handsfree communication is made possible thanks to the inclusion of a 3.5 mm audio Jack and a speakerphone system.

 

As mentioned, the super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen measures 4 inches and boasts the capability to display up to 16M colours within a pixel setup of 480x800 pixels resulting in extremely high levels of detail and clarity within the on screen imagery.  Along with an accelerometer sensor and proximity sensor, the screen also utilises a multi touch input method and Swype text input.

 

Samsung have included a number of connectivity features so the Galaxy S can utilise the optimum methods for connectivity dependent upon location.  In areas with little or no 3G coverage, class 12 versions of both GPRS and EDGE provide the handset with its primary methods of connecting to cellular networks.  In areas covered by 3G, an HSDPA connection provides access to the Internet at speeds of up to 7.2 mega bytes per second (along with an HSUPA connection at 5.76 mega bytes per second).  Wi-Fi Technology is also utilises for Internet connections in areas where a wireless Internet router is located.  This allows users to surf the web at broadband speeds, therefore offering an enhanced browsing experience.

 

A wealth of features makes this a very versatile handset.  A versatile media player, document viewer, organiser and voice memo recorder all served functions ranging from keeping users entertained to providing effective functionality calls.  Dedicated applications to popular websites including YouTube, Google and Picasa offer convenient shortcuts to these sites.

 

Dependent upon model, either 8 GB or 16 GB of internal storage is provided as standard.  This provides an impressive level of storage for data such as music tracks, video clips or photos.  A micro SD slot is also included for the same purpose which can accommodate a memory card of up to 32 GB.

 

In summary, the Samsung Galaxy S is a very appealing mobile phone for a number of reasons.  Its comprehensive spec list and android operating system makes it a functional yet attractive handset.
