But in the case of a recent interview between myself and another Underground Jay Diebolt, you should come armed with a notebook and pen, or a blank page on your monitor - because the tips and techniques he talks about are priceless.

He really cuts through the jargon, the hype and the over-complicated methods being thrown at newbies to internet marketing.

Especially when approaching internet affiliate marketing, there seem to be hundreds of experts, each willing to share their 'secrets' - for a price. But by ignoring the get-rich guru pitches, and focus on the free or cheaper tools available, you can really be rewarded. But like all good things, it takes some effort from you to make it happen.

The List

Every internet marketing expert started out with no 'list' of customers or prospects. If you don't have a list, you can still make money with internet marketing. By using social media - bookmarking sites, blogs, forums etc, you can get traffic to your blog or website.

If you contribute valuable posts in the forums relevant to you niche and include your website link in your signature, the traffic that will flow from there will be very targeted - and more inclined to buy from you.

Collect the details of people who visit your site - they will become your 'list'.

Bonuses

When you are participating in an internet affiliate marketing campaign, especially the ones that have a real marketing machine behind them, you will find you have competitors who are offering lots of bonuses. Don't be discouraged by this. Oftentimes they are offering unrelated, mass produced rubbish - just to ramp up the pitch. Your buyers aren't stupid. They can tell if the bonus being offered is worthwhile, so make an effort to get creative.

If you have a good deal of knowledge on the topic, you can offer training, a newsletter - actually create a product to go with the launch product - or outsource its creation. Don't go down the path of offering rebates and discounts - these devalue the product.

Get Focus

Most people, when they start out in internet marketing, affiliate marketing in particular, will get so excited by the opportunities out there, they try to tackle too many projects at once. However, when they realize that they should stay focused on one major product launch at a time, the rewards will be greater. Spreading your efforts too thinly, will mean that none of your campaigns will receive the attention they deserve.

Internet marketing experts seem to focus on one major affiliate product launch each month, one of their own products perhaps twice per year, and have some evergreen affiliate products, that eventually have a life of their own, just working away in the background.
