JD Institute of Fashion Technology is one of the most reputed colleges in India for Fashion Designing. The college is the educational division of the JD Trust and was founded on 12th October,JD Institute of Fashion Technology Articles 1988. The institute was ranked 10th in the field of Fashion Technology Education in India by India today and Nielson.  

Now  with globalization the fashion industry has become more prominent. Competition has increased, but at the same time the industry has also become more accessible for young fashion professionals. Online fashion portals such as Jabong and LimeRoad, with concepts like online fashion shows provide them with an opportunity to reach a vast audience.

Recently an annual design awards show of JD Institute of Fashion Technology (JDIFT), was held where aspiring fashion designers of the city talked about their design philosophy and dynamics of the industry.

A 19-year-old fashion designer Soundarya Mishra, who graduated from JD Institute of Fashion Technology this year has managed to create a garment brand – Avatar, which custom designs garments and a Facebook page called ‘Avatar You’ where she showcases her designs.

At JD Institute’s annual design awards show, Soundarya’s designs highlighted the hidden emotions of a human beings. The layers of fabric in five creations of western ethnic designs presented the different human emotions. The young designer used leather belts, hanging dolls and artistic prints in her collection to convey this theme in Bhagalpuri silk fabric.

JD Institute of Fashion Technology has managed to produce some great fashion designers over the years such as Gaurav Chabra (1997), Jaswinder Gardner – Actress, class of 1994, Kinjal Galia – Movie Costume Designer, class of 2005, Neha Poddar – Movie Costume Designer, class of 2005,Vidhi Singh – Designer, class of 2003, Raghav – Designer, class of 2007, Bhanu Mehta – Designer, class of 2008, Zahid Saikh – Designer, class of 2007, Nitika Seth – Designer, class of 2000, Rocky S – Designer, class of 1990, Sanjith – Designer, class of 1996 etc.

The Institute provides the following courses:  

  1. Advanced diploma in Fashion and Apparel Design (3 Years) , accredited by European Quality Control
  2. Advanced diploma in Interior Design (3 Years), accredited by European Quality Control
  3. Post Graduate Diploma in Fashion Communication (2 years)
  4. Diploma in Fashion Design (1 year)
  5. Diploma in Interior design (1 year)
  6. Diploma in event management (1 year)
  7. Diploma in Jewellery design (6 Months)
  8. Diploma in fashion photography ( 3 months)
  9. Diploma in Visual Merchandising ( 3 months)
