NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Ricardo Vivanco in the Portal to Dreams. The exhibition opens May 19, 2017 and runs through June 8, 2017 with an opening reception on Thursday, May 25 from 6-8 pm.
The evocative paintings of Ricardo Vivanco are powerful, brooding reflections of the human mind and its inner fears. A practicing psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Vivanco is fascinated by the inner lives of people everywhere, and his knowledge and imagination lead him to create pieces with an air of melancholy offset by hope. From tango dancers to musicians, historical figures to political protests and cityscapes, Vivanco delves into human conflicts and emotions with the air of a lone knight on a quest for understanding. With definitive, strong brushstrokes that can be precise and expressive, and a dark, yet visually balanced palette, Vivanco’s work is modern and poignant, as complex as the human experience itself. His paintings are open to numerous interpretations, drawing viewers in with a labyrinthine sense of tension and mystery.
A native of Argentina, Vivanco has been painting for forty-five years and has won several international art awards. He finds inspiration for his work in his own life, as well as the people he meets through his job. He says that above all, he is himself and his painting.

About the Exhibition
The Portal to Dreams
Portal to Dreams is a new group exhibition that offers alternative visions of reality expressed through abstraction, surrealism, and technical experimentation. This collection of artists features three painters of the human form: one who creates psychological studies using expressive brushstrokes, one who constructs bodies out of geometrical shapes and tempered colors, and one who paints modern narrative scenes containing bodies treated surrealistically. There is also an abstract oil painter who uses winding lines and textures to create intricate shapes. Finally, there is a digital artist whose richly colored patterns move very slowly in a new kind of genre. The pieces in Portal to Dreams are undeniably bold and forward-thinking.
