The question of exactly how much to price a home workout program carries with it a variety of considerations.
In my experience, if you can guarantee a certain result that people want, you have a lot more freedom in playing with the pricing. These days the level of research and testing that goes into the product development process means that normally price itself wonít undue the performance of a product. Price is something that is brought up only in most cases when the product is underperforming in some ways or at least in some ways related to the performance expectations.
With the P90X2 extreme workout program it is these high expectations for whatever reason not being met in the eyes of the user which have led to the discussion about price. The P90X2 extreme workout program has pushed the envelope with three different levels within the program and increasing price points as you go through each level. First you have the Base P90X2 which is priced about the same as the original P90X. Next you have Deluxe with two additional workouts and some equipment such as balance ball, and two medicine balls.† So you can continue to grow and change.
Finally the highest level of the P90X2 extreme workout program which is called Ultimate includes two more pieces of unique equipment. Again with each additional level you are forcing the extremely critical change through muscle confusion that is so integral to P90X and P90X2.†
When people bring up the higher price points of P90X2 and object to them they are normally in either of two positions. First you will often have customers who are likely to have not purchased the program initially. They look at the levels and become confused and even are angered because they feel like theyíll get left out by not getting the full program and therefore feel like they are being bullied into the higher cost Deluxe or Ultimate.† What I have recommended to people in the past is to not look at any other level besides Base to start out with. If they are successful in Base, then grab the discount that comes with jumping all the way up to Ultimate. You donít have to actually jump to Ultimate but you very likely will be excited enough to get their eventually.
The other group of people who object are people who started and didnít like the P90X2 extreme workout program. I can only tell them to stick through the whole thing at least once, then judge.
