Addiction to Sweets: Myth or Reality?

Addiction to sweets exists and the process is absolutely identical to the cocaine or morphine addiction, according to a Princeton study. The sweets determines the brain to produce certain chemicals that make the body ask for more.

When you eat sweets, the large amount of glucose determines a large production of insulin, the glucose is easily absorbed in the blood, and you`ll feel more hunger. In the same time, the brain also produces dopamine, a substance that makes us remember the product we enjoyed.

When people want to give up smoking, alcohol, or drugs, they usually replace them with sweets, according to researchers. Although it is not as strong, the calming effect of sweets exists but it may lead to another addiction and a false solution to the previous vice.

It was also showed that people prefer the sweet taste instead of salt, sour, or bitter. Babies showed that sweets may have a calming effect because they stopped crying and calmed down after they received sweets.

Too much sugar for children may also lead to hormonal changes that may transform them into dependent adults. If you feel like sweets are starting to become a refugee when you feel sad, tired, or nervous, pay attention to what you buy and eat.
