How To Treat Anxiety: Take A New Approach

You need to do more than change your focus, which is what many people have been told. To treat anxiety, you need to take a closer look inside to find out your hot buttons, the ones that begin the cycle of fear and anxiety. This article tells you exactly how to do that.

Several books tell you how to treat anxiety by changing your focus, but for someone having an anxiety attack, that's easier said than done. You probably think that beating anxiety can't be that simple. You've convinced yourself that there is something seriously wrong with you. Every time an anxiety attack occurs, you become more sure that this condition will overtake you one day and you will never recover.

You've read many articles that tell you how to treat anxiety, from taking herbal cures to self hypnosis to relaxing to music. These are all valid cures that you can use to treat anxiety, but in the end, it comes down to how well you use those cures. You might get some relief from relaxation when you are resting comfortably at home, but perhaps you are too tense to use it during an attack.

Herbal cures must be taken regularly over a length of time before you will see results, which is why many people decide that they just don't work.

You can try any or all of these methods, but one of the best is simply to use your own mind against the anxiety.

Take an entirely new approach and you will discover how to treat anxiety before it becomes a full-blown panic attack.

Think of your anxiety as you would if you were just 'nervous' about a project. Everyone gets nervous about something. That nervousness is mild anxiety that you can resolve quickly by changing how you think about it. What do you do when you experience that nervousness? Do you push through it? Back away? Or take time to calm down and try again?

Use this same technique to cure your anxiety the moment it starts. This means not being afraid of it. Don't fear how you will feel. Accept that you are anxious and think about what you can do to get past it. You might get best results by stepping back, practicing the relaxation option and then try again.

Think of the anxiety as simply an irritant that wants to fight you. Take control and challenge it like you would any enemy. Decide how best to battle this foe. Pump up your inner strength and stare down your anxiety, like you would challenge an angry child. Tell your anxiety it's not going to win because you are the stronger opponent.

The biggest problem for anxiety-sufferers is their approach to their fear. They imagine that it is superior to them and that it has all the power. Rather than fearing the fear, challenge it. Dare it to show its worst and then stand up to it.

This exercise can be somewhat intimidating, but once you begin this stand-off, you will gradually become stronger and more powerful. As you practiceFeature Articles, you will be well on your way to knowing how to treat your anxiety anytime it strikes.
