Where To Live In Austin TX For Families With Children – South Austin

Barton Hills in South Austin is a great for kids who love the woods,Where To Live In Austin TX For Families With Children Articles as it’s right next to Barton Creek Greenbelt.  It also has a very highly rated elementary school, but does not have much of a downtown feel.  If hiking isn’t so important to your family, you can try Travis Heights which is further from the woods but closer to downtown and still has a very highly rated school.   South Austin as a whole has this “Keep Austin Weird” vibe which while some love, other’s aren’t so fond of.  Spend a couple days in 78704 and you’ll know whether or not it’s your cup of tea.

Where To Live In Austin TX For Families With Children – Downtown

West Lake, Lost Creek, Clarksville, Tarrytown and Hyde Park have very good schools and are beautiful neighborhoods but can run a bit on the expensive side.  Hyde Park is a little more affordable than the others.  Houses in these neighborhoods will run about $150-$300 per square foot on average.  Clarksville and Hyde Park are a 5 minute drive to downtown.  Hyde Park is very flat with lots of trees which is a plus if you’re big on biking and running

Where To Live In Austin TX For Families With Children – North Austin

A cheaper option might be Pflugerville (Up North) which has very good schools and an average per square foot value somewhere between $60 and $100.  The only disadvantage here is the distance to downtown – If there’s no traffic, you can make it in 20-30 minutes, and with traffic, it’s more like 45-60 minutes.  One nice thing about Pflugerville is its proximity to Dell.  You’ll find lots of techies in the area and so kids are connected through their parent’s techy relationships – Every other kid’s mom and dad works at Dell.  Similar pros and cons go for Round Rock and Cedar Park.

Use this article as a guide but before you make any decisions, talk to locals, go to the schools and speak with teachers, yelp the area, research crime rates, and ask to see statistics for population - what percent are children, what percent are teenagers, how long do most people stay in the area?  Better to do too much than too little research to ensure a safe neighborhood for your kids.
