If you have even remotely studied Search Engine Optimization,What You Should Know About Building Backlinks Articles you have likely heard the word “backlink” a few times. It is one of the building blocks that construct the optimization; it cannot be neglected. You may not have the knowledge to succeed in accumulating backlinks. This article will give what you need to know.

A Little History On Backlinks
Years ago, a search engine ranking was not contingent on backlinks, but rather the focus was on things within your page, like meta tags and the quantity of your keywords. Understandably, that was exploited, because all one had to do was load was a bevy of keywords and tags on their page if they wanted to rank high.  Even if the site itself was not relevant to their keywords---- people would put tags like “weight loss” on a technology blog--- the site would still rank. The site owners who took a more organic approach were ousted off the rankings, even if the quality of their on-site content was adequate. And, because it was buried under heaps of relative trash, the desired quality content was too difficult to locate. Finally, Google restructured the entire system. Google gave more weight to the quality, not the quantity. Among other things, Google placed the search ranking on one’s backlinks. As their name suggest, they link back to your site and tell the search engines what words you rank for. Today, they are the most significant facets of building recognition for a site. If you own a website, backlinks are something you cannot neglect or ignore, especially if you want a conspicuous presence on Google.

First thing to know: Getting backlinks is not difficult
Yes, contrary to popular beliefs, backlinks are not difficult to obtain, even if you utilize natural methods. Some organic, often dubbed “white-hat,” methods are below-

Article directories
Forums
Social Media
Press releases
Guest writing/blogging

If you were to submit articles to directories (for example, Ezine or Hubpages), post on forums (anything in your niche), dominate a social media campaign (Facebook, Twitter, and the newly introduced Google +), start a press release (this can really ignite an interest to your site), and write for other blogs and websites, you can see concrete results over time. Remember this: When using these methods, always provide a link back to your site. Building backlinks and recognition is the impetus for these methods.

Second thing to know: You need quality
Quality is the aspect that slips away from the minds of many site owners. Quality of the backlinks is important. If the websites which link back to you are not trusted by Google, you, by extension, are not trusted by Google. It is as simple as that. This is significant; many site owners buy backlinks from others, but the purchase is nearly worthless, as the sites providing the backlinks are not recognized or respected by Google. So, take the “white-hat,” organic approach. Calibrate the value of the backlinks, as it can save in the eyes of the search engines.

Third thing to know: You need good content
The content is what fills the site. Without decent content, why would people want to visit your site? What would propel their interest? Even better, think of it like this: the content of the site is like the furnishings of the house. If you expect people to come over and pay a visit, but you do not own a couch or a chair, chances are, they will not stay very long. So, in closing, write good content, make it interesting, give visitors a reason to step past the figurative doorpost, take off their coats, and stay a while. Remember: backlinks are not difficult to obtain, but you need good quality and content if you want powerful traffic.
