Dorset counsellor services are at full stretch as an aging population comes to terms with spending up to a third of their life in retirement, according to reports.

Dorset’s counsellor providers,Elderly population sees Dorset’s counsellors at full stretch. Articles both state and private, have seen a major increase in demand over the last quarter century as life-expectancy has increased by a whopping 40%.

An ‘Age Map’ released by the government shows Dorset will exceed the national average of 22.2 per cent of the population aged over 65 by 203.

Christchurch in East Dorset, an area with the highest proportion of pensioners in the country, tops this figure by a massive margin.

These areas currently have an aging population over the age of 65 which is double the national average – running at a staggering 30%

This means that the number seeking Dorset’s counsellor services is far higher than an observer could expect to see in some other part of the United Kingdom.

But, then again, the south of England has always been a magnet for couples looking to retire after selling the family home once the children have left to make their own way in the world; so perhaps the trend is just the result of some steep regional variation, some sources say.

Now that Dorset counsellor and life coaching providers are busier than ever, new counsellors will have to be recruited and trained.

Sue Terry from Dorset counsellor group New Horizons said: “When the pace of life inevitably slows, it can be difficult to fill the day with stimulating activities and sadly it is not uncommon for aging persons to become depressed.”

“You might think that planning for an extended life was quite a nice problem to have, but it can be really quite stressful for all types of people.” She added.
