The standard and mini sizes of the Poodle are used to get the standard and mini sizes of the Bernedoodles, while the tiny size Poodle is used to get the Tiny sized Bernedoodle.

Bernedoodle Appearance

It’s harder to predict the appearance of the Bernedoodle like many other designer dog breeds. Because there are many ways of combining their genetics, you will never know what you are actually going to get until you get a puppy. Their sizes vary a lot, but all of the sizes are look like a fluffier version of the Bernese mountain dog.

Height and weight

As discussed earlier, the Bernedoodle sizes vary depending upon the different sizes of the Poodle. Let’s the height and weight of the different sizes of the Bernedoodles.

  • The first one is the standard Bernedoodle, which can reach the height of 23 to 29 inches with a weight of 50 to 90 lbs.
  • The second one is the Mini Bernedoodle, which can reach up to 18 to 22 inches in height and 25 to 29 lbs in weight.
  • The smallest size of the Bernedoodles is the tiny size. The tiny size Bernedoodles can reach up to 12 to 17 inches in height with 10 to 24 lbs weight.

Color Variation

The most classic color of the Bernedoodles is the tri-color pattern of the Bernese Mountain Dog, but they also come in many other variations as well. Their color variations include the following.

  • The puppies taking the color of Bernese mountain dog are usually black, black, and white or the classic tri-color black, white, and brown.
  • Suppose the puppies take the more Poodle side. Their coat may also appear in grey, apricot, blue, fawn, cream, and merle.


Mostly the coat of the Bernedoodles has medium length, thick, and wavy. Generally, they shed less and perfect for people having dander allergies. They can have a straight, wavy, and curly coat. Their curlier coat is more hypoallergenic than the wavy coat. Sometimes they inherit a higher percentage of the poodle genes, which gives them the classic Poodle look.

Is a Bernedoodle good for families?

Yes! Bernedoodles are very intelligent and excellent for families. They love to play with the kids as long as you socialize them from an early age. Sometimes they also use as therapy dogs due to their gentleness. But sometimes, they build stubborn behavior, which usually fades away with time.


How to train a Bernedoodle?

It’s easy to train this unique dog breed due to its intelligent nature. You can use positive reinforcement training to train your dog. In fact, it’s the best way to train the Bernedoodles. Makes sure to socialize them during an early age as they may sometimes be a little wary of strangers. Moreover, any dog can become anxious around strangers if it’s not properly socializing at an early age.
