It's amazing how much what we wear says about us. Our choice of clothing can have a large impact on how others look at us too. Before you step outside, do you ever consider whether you've chosen the right footwear?

Clothing has been about much more than simply offering protection for centuries. If you think about ancient civilizations, you soon realise that clothing was always seen as a way of showing one's status. During the Roman era, for example, clothes were used as a means of demonstrating an individual's position within society.

You might think that things are rather more relaxed in the modern world. The reality, however, is that we still all make judgements based on the way that people dress.

Some garments are expected to be worn by people with a particular position in an organisation, or because they are required to enable the wearer to do a particular job.

Footwear forms a very important part of our overall appearance. Selecting the right shoes is vital, as choosing inappropriate footwear could lead to discomfort.

If you are, for example, going to work then you may need to consider what is appropriate to be worn in your workplace.

Working in an office environment, for instance, might suggest that you should dress quite formally. By choosing not to do so, you may find that you are approached by a senior member of staff.

Alternatively, you may not receive a direct approach, but it could be the case the colleagues and other members of the organisation make judgements on you based upon your choice of shoes.

Should such things still be important in the modern world? Many would argue that they should not be, but it's clear that they are.
