Whether it's the terrible economy putting families under extra stress,
or just a quick paced world that forces kids to mature so swiftly, almost all folks are faced with some kind of youth discipline issue. The problem for many families is simply this. Do they even see that there is a problem in the first place, because if they don't, they most likely won't get any where with this problem.
When you have young kids, you're most likely a bit younger than I am. Even so, even if you're in your late twenties/early thirties, you might have seen a change in our culture. This society is just so quick paced. And with the vast popularity of computers, and phone/text messaging, virtually each child has turned out to be accustomed to a world where they receive constant and immediate stimulus.
So why is this relevant when it comes to youth discipline? Well, maybe it isn't. Even so, if you are my age (I'm not that old, I just turned 50), perhaps you remember a much simpler time. I know that sounds like I'm old, but I'm truly not, believe me. And I use the world wide web for several, wonderful things, and it's just great.
It's just that, I do not feel we realize how significantly unique and quick paced our world truly is today. The positive side to that is I know, with no hesitation, that my kids are sharper than I was at their age. But is there a price that we are paying for how much they see, and discover at such an early age.
Surely, many parents monitor their children, and don't allow them to go on Facebook before a certain age, or to have a computer in their room before a certain age. How do you monitor Facebook activities when you can do all that on a phone now?
Clearly, the world is often changing, and hopefully mothers and fathers continue to find techniques to stay ahead of their youngsters. Hopefully parents still take the time to instill family values in their children, and impress on them how critical it is for the family to do things together.
I'm certain you've heard the advertisement where President Obama speaks about how essential it is to just have a few family meals together every week. Now that's revealing when we have to be reminded how vital it is for the family to spend some quality time together. Regardless, it's a tremendous idea, and it has proven to be effective. When families do things together, the children will be much better for it.
Now, if you are reading this, you are most likely among the few families who may well have some issues with your youngsters, and are acknowledging it, and attempting to do something about it. Believe me, I've seen many, many families that just do not have the ability to get honest about this ever so vital topic. It's definitely not easy to admit that you'll find problems inside the family, but if there are problems, the only way to get rid of them is to start out with the truth.
