After a whole week of hard work, studying, running errands, shopping and taking care of home duties, here comes the weekend – the time that you were waiting for since Monday. You will finally have some time only for yourself and your children. For many parents this time is very precious, because during the week they fell like they don’t have enough time for their kids. However, sometimes parents don’t know how to use time on the weekend and how to organize fun activities that would engage themselves and their children.

Here are few ways to engage toddlers so that they don’t get bored quickly. These ideas are useful especially when the weather is nice and promotes outdoor activities.

  1. Go for a stroll,Fun activities for parents and toddlers Articles hike or bike trip

It really depends on your child’s age and interests. If you have 1-year-old you can use a stroller for a walk. Toddlers can ride in a lightweight strollers which are usually very compact and easy to carry. If your child is 2 years old or older, he will probably enjoy walking, but might get tired on longer distances. That’s why a stroller may be also helpful for older toddlers, when they want to get some rest they can just hop on the stroller. And when they want to walk again, you can easily fold the stroller and carry it on a shoulder or as a bag. What place to choose for a walk? Consider a place where your child like to hangout or choose a place where your kid hasn’t been yet. A park that the child hasn’t seen yet or a new playground.

You can also choose a hiking trip, if that’s what you like. For such a trip jogging stroller would be very useful, because it has bigger air-filled wheels that will handle rougher, bumpy terrain in hilly area or in forest. You can also put your baby into a special carrier for hiking that looks like a backpack. These two options are the best to provide safety and comfort for the little adventurer.

Another idea is a bike trip. You can go to the nearby lake, maybe a country side that is few miles from your home or a park, which is on the other side of town. If you want to go on a bike trip, you can attach to your bike a trailer for your child or install specially designed child bike seat.

  1. Trip to the ZOO or aquarium

If there is a ZOO or aquarium in your town, it may quickly become your child’s favorite place. During spring and summer some of them may organize picnics or family festivals. It may be a perfect opportunity for you to meet other parents and for your children to meet and play with other kids. Usually, these type of events offer shows and other fun activities for children, so you can be sure your toddlers won’t get bored quickly.

  1. Go to the swimming pool or lake

If you and your children like to swim, you can go to the swimming pool or, during warm summer days, to the nearby lake. It may be a fun for the whole family!

Here are also few other ideas, for indoor activities, useful especially during long autumn and winter evening and for bad weather!

  1. Find out about activities and events for children in your neighborhood

It may turn out that there are plenty attractions for children in your neighborhood. Choose something that is related to your kids’ hobbies and interests, but also something that would be fun for you. Maybe there are cooking workshops for children in the area or art and music classes for the whole family?

  1. Read to your children

It’s never too early to start reading to kids. It is perfect way to strengthen bond between you, it may be also a way to calm them before going to bed. It’s also excellent method for teaching children first words, letters or names of popular items. You can not only read books but also try to come up with your own story and tell it in a way that will stimulate the child's curiosity and imagination. It may be perfect activity for cold winter evenings.

Always choose activities that are fun and enjoyable for both sides, and remember one thing: for children the most important fact is that you are spending this time together. It’s definitely better than TV and games on phone or tablet.
