Due to last week’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan,Six Antioxidants Articles the nuclear reactors of the Fukushima plant have been shaken, flooded and cut off from electricity. People are worrying about the radioactive release. Compared with this disaster, daily radiation is very limited. However, the radiation is everywhere in our life. Though computers, microwave ovens and induction cookers bring us convenience, they expose us to radiation. How can we avoid radiation? The answer is food.

 Lycopene

Red fruit such as tomatoes and watermelons is just the representative. Lycopene exists in many kinds of red fruit, especially in tomatoes. It is the most powerful antioxidant in the family of carotenoid. It is 100 times as efficient as vitamin E, eliminating radicals, resisting radiation and preventing cardiovascular diseases. Eating such food often helps people improve immunity and postpone aging. It is regarded as the gold in plants.

Vitamin E and vitamin C

Both vitamins can be easily found in all kinds of beans, olive oil and sunflower oil, crucifer vegetables like cabbage and mustard and fruit such as orange, kiwi and jujube. Vitamin C and vitamin E are both antioxidants, protecting us from radiation. This kind of food is suggested to be eaten uncooked, for both vitamins cannot endure high temperature. Maybe it is a good choice for you to make a salad.

 Vitamin  A and bate-carotene

Vitamin A is the first vitamin that is discovered by human beings. There are generally two types of vitamin A. The first type is called retionl, which exists in the form of the original vitamin in animal livers. The other type is the familiar carotene, which can be converted into the provitamin A. This type is easily found in plants and meat.We measure vitamin A by USP(United States Pharmocopea), IU(International Units) or RE(Retinol Equivalents).Animal livers, cod liver oil, eggs and carrot are rich in vitamin A and bate-carotene. This type of food is good at protecting our eyes. Natural carotene and vitamin A are excellent antioxidants, preventing cells from dangers and resisting cancers. Eating carrots frequently can reduce the ultraviolet radiation. Nowadays natural carotene is used in cosmetics to protect our skin.

Selenium

Sesame, eggs, beer, seafood like lobster and tunny are rich in this micro element. It prevents oxidation and radiation.

Provitamin A

Green tea and mung beans are sources of provitamin A. If you are not used to green tea, chrysanthemum tea can be a good choice. Scientific research reveals that green tea is rich in provitamin A, which plays an important role in metabolism and radiation protection.

Collagen

Kelp is the opponent of radiation. It can reduce the damage caused by isotopes and radials, restraining the death of immune cells. Moreover, it is a cleanser in the human body. The collagen in kelp, spinal cord and animal skins helps discharge the radioactive substances and repair damaged skin to make our skin elastic.
