In Corona,Woman Must Pay Alimony to Man that Sexually Assaulted her Daughter Articles California, Carol Abar has found herself in a horrifying situation. By court order, she has been forced to pay alimony to her ex-husband who has since been convicted of raping her daughter during a period of 16 years.

Carol and Ed Abar married in 1991 and divorced sixteen years later, immediately after Carol’s daughter told her mom that her stepfather had been abusing and sexually assaulting her. Her daughter was only 9 when the abuse began.

The secret was never revealed because according to the daughter, Abar threatened to kill her mother and her two stepbrothers if she ever said anything.

Carol immediately filed for divorce from her abusive husband; however, did not bring about the rape charges until after. Because of this, Abar was able to receive alimony in the amount of $1,300 a month from Carol as he made less money than her.

The judge in her divorce court stated that she had no proof of the abuse, so it was not considered in the case. However, last year Abar pleaded guilty to one of the five rape charges that Carol had brought against him to receive a lesser jail time, despite his constant assertions that he is innocent. He was sentenced to over a year in jail, and that is when Carol’s payments finally stopped.

In total, she has already paid her ex-husband $22,000. Now that he is out of jail, he’s taking her to court once again to continue the alimony payments as well as compensation for the money not paid while he was incarcerated.

His attorneys feel that he is entitled to the money as it is his right as an ex-spouse who made less money. And despite his conviction of raping Carol’s daughter, it is possible that she will lose this case because spousal support is not affected by child abuse.

This is a prime example of how people can manipulate the law in order to get what they want when they do not deserve it.
