Hygiene goes a long way towards keeping your pet smelling nicely.  Oils will build up on your dog's haircoat and could eventually lead to it starting to smell bad.  You can help to keep this from happening by brushing your dog's hair often.

It is also important to give your dog a bath once every week or two.  The more time they spend outside getting dirty,Guest Posting the more often you will need to give him a bath.  If you do not want to give your dog a bath every time he starts smelling bad, then you can try baking soda instead.  It can be rubbed on his haircoat to absorb odors even without using water.

Do not forget about caring for your dog's teeth properly.  Dogs are not supposed to have bad breath no matter what their reputation says.  Brush your dog's teeth on a daily basis to keep bacteria from building up and leading to potentially serious dental problems.

Your pet's bedding may also be a potential problem as far as odor control is concerned.  Use a cover for your dog's bedding so you can conveniently toss it into the washing machine to get rid of odors.  Make sure the detergent you use will not cause skin problems for your dog though.

Air fresheners will come in handy.  Be careful those in spray form do not cause problems for your dog's skin either.
