Agra is one of the important cities of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It's positioned around the banks of the River Yamuna. The name Agra is said to have derived from the term Agrevana. Agrevana means the border of the woods. It should be encompassing a great woodland during those times. The town was launched by Raja Badal Singh in 1475 Ad. He built a fortification called Badalgarh. Even though the history started from the time period of Mahirshi Angira, it attained its maximum in the course of the Mughal time. Samrat Hem Chander Vikramaditya had been the Leader of the army of Adil Shah of Suri Empire of Afghan. He invaded Agra in 1556 and Tardi Beg Khan, the commander of Mughals of Delhi withdrew without having a battle as he was scared of Hemu. Hemu conquered Delhi on seventh October 1556 and established the Vikramaditya Empire in North India.

Mughal period was referred to as the glowing period of the history of Agra city. Agra was one of the significant centres of the Great Revolt of 1857. It was the birth place of the Radhaswami Faith.
