Before your catalog is printed, try to exercise some of these tips before anything comes amiss.

Do you have white lines framing your entire catalog? Extend all sides by 1/8 of an inch to give allowance to the cut.  Cuts are normally done in between the Bleed and the Trim, so remember the 1/8 rule.

• Sizes
Do you want your catalog to be portable? Or do you want it to look like a regular magazine?  Do you need to mail it?

• Finishing
Do you want a glossy finish? Or do you want at a page that is protected from accidental tearing or water spills?

• Truthfully rank your products / services
Is your theme or color scheme appropriate for your products or services? Perhaps your product is intended for the masses and your preferred layout and colors are a bit too fancy?

After catalogs you need to address several things as well:

1) Likability
Is your catalog attractive enough to get a persons attention and read it?  If not, you may need to reevaluate your designs and color scheme.

2) Usefulness
Are the products or services you are presenting beneficial for the readers? The only time people continue to read is when they find something interesting or something useful in a catalog.

3) Longevity
Are the papers used in the catalog everlasting? Will it survive a number of page turns from curious readers? Having durable paper is the best bet for a good marketing tool.

4) Consumption
Were you able to distribute the catalogs to your target readers? What happened to your sales?
