How to make them at home?

Making beautiful cake boxes design at home is a lot easier than baking them. You can make them by using simple tools that include;

  • Cardboard 2 pieces in a square shape (the size can be varied but the shape should always be a square)
  • Scale 1 piece (preferably a large one made with steel)
  • Lead pencil 1 piece (properly sharped)
  • Scissors 1 piece

Step by step procedure

Base panel:

  • Place the square cardboard piece at a hard and dry surface.
  • Mark two diagonal lines (that make an X) on the piece to find its centre.
  • Take the corners of the paper and turn them towards the Center. Do it one by one and make sure you do not cross the Center point.
  • At the end of the folding, you will have a properly turned and shaped square.
  • Take one end of the folded square and fold it one more time towards the Center point. Make sure you pick the end from its Center not from the corner.
  • Repeat the same procedure to the rest of the three sides as well.
  • You will have a properly creased sheet of cardboard that you will use in further processing.
  • Open the folding and you will see a small and a medium-sized square at the Center of the paper.
  • Mark points at the corner spots of the medium square and joins them by drawing diagonal lines with the help of scale and lead pencil.
  • Take the scissors and cut the paper from the lines that you have drawn. Make sure that the cut is not too deep, it should just reach the small squares right next to the corners.
  • After the cutting, turn the pointy ends of the four panels towards the Center and the small flaps on their sides inwards.
  • Once you are done with folding the panels and flaps inwards, you will be able to see a nearly finished carton in front of you.
  • Use the flaps as locking tabs and the pointy ends as the base panel and join them together.
  • Your base panel is ready to use.

But the base panel alone cannot fulfil the purpose of a cake boxes design, you will need a lid as well that can be used to cover the panel from the top.

Top panel:

  • Place the square cardboard piece at a hard and dry surface.
  • Mark two diagonal lines (that make an X) on the piece to find its Center.
  • Take the corners of the paper and turn them towards the Center. Do it one by one and make sure you do not cross the Center point.
  • The only difference here is to keep the folded sides slightly off the Center.
  • At the end of the folding, you will have a slightly off the Center shaped square.
  • Similarly, fold the one end of the folded square and fold it one more time towards the Center point. Keep it slightly off the Center again, about 1 to 1.5 cm off.
  • The further steps are the same as you have done before.

Note: Folding the sides away from the Center will make the box a bit bigger than the previous one and it will cover the base panel perfectly well.

By following these steps you can make beautiful and strong yet adhesive-free cake boxes at home. You can use colourful and printed sheets to give them a better presentable look.
