Industrial Hygiene Monitoring focuses on the exposure of each employee during the course of the daily duties at the jobsite.  Different job positions expose each employee to different hazards through the course of a day.  A Certified Industrial Hygienist can work with your company to identify each hazard.

The Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) will first visit your facility to determine the areas that may need to be actively monitored to determine the amount of exposure each employee has to different hazards.  Industrial Hygiene Monitoring will evaluate and document the physical,Industrial Hygiene Monitoring for Your Company Articles biological, and chemical hazards faced by each employee.  The CIH may need to setup specialized monitoring equipment to take measurements for the different hazards present.  The equipment may need to run for a period of time to gain an accurate assessment with the monitoring equipment.  Employees may also be asked to wear equipment that will monitor the different environments throughout the day to give an accurate account for each hazard they are exposed to.

Not every hazard can be monitored with equipment.  Some hazards must be observed by the Certified Industrial Hygienist to gain an accurate knowledge of the frequency and duration of each employee exposure.  The workers activities must be observed in the manner they are performed to ensure their actions are safe.  Other situations may involve employees exposed to hazards while they are utilizing monitoring equipment.

The collected data by the equipment or observation will then be compiled into a detailed report and presented to the company’s management team.  The Certified Industrial Hygienist may also list a series of recommendations to address any concerns with found hazards and the exposure time of the employees.  Some recommendations may call for Personal Protective Equipment such as safety glasses or respirators to be issued to the employees.  Other recommendations may change the way the employee interacts during the time they are exposed by limiting the amount of time.
