Platinum cured silicone seals withstand temperature extremes,Platinum Cured Silicones Articles radiation, corona, ozone exposure, moisture and steam. Due to its smooth finish, platinum cured silicones resist product adhesion.

A platinum-based silicone cure system is also known as an addition system due to the reason that platinum is added to the system as a catalyst and simultaneously there are no byproducts. In this system, two separate components must be mixed to catalyze the polymers and the one component contains a platinum complex which must be mixed with the second, a hydride- and a vinyl-functional siloxane polymer, creating a ethyl bridge between the two.

Such silicone rubbers cure quickly, though the rate of or even ability to cure is easily inhibited in the presence of elemental tin, sulphur, and many amine compounds. This platinum-based system has many merits, such as almost no shrinkage (not more than 0.1%), high chemical resistance to aggressive components of some types of resins, good tear strength, high degree of precision in reproduction, high dimensional stability over time and non-deformability, high resistance to high temperatures and aging, excellent non-stick effect and good grade (environmental, odorless and nontoxic).

It is recommended to consider the usage of these platinum cured silicone seals and gaskets when it is not feasible to use PTFE seals and gaskets due to severely misaligned fittings, or if the cost of high pressure clamps outweighs the benefits of PTFE like extended service life. Unlike PTFE, Silicone gaskets are very flexible at low temperatures. They are also odourless, tasteless, non toxic, and hygienic. With the ability to be autoclaved, irradiated and gas sterilized, Platinum Cured Silicone Gaskets provide you with the ultimate high purity contact surface.

The curing process of silicone gaskets has a direct affect on the amount and type of extractables the hygienic seal will emit. The peroxide curing process leaves residuals of Benzoic Acid, which is the curing additive, that results in unwanted surface conditions that can lead to product contamination. The platinum curing process eliminates this problem and minimizes reaction between the gasket and process fluids. These gaskets are post cured and will not cause cell mutation or growth retardation. Platinum cured silicones seals and gaskets maintain and uphold ultra pure water and cGMP process fluid standards. These gaskets and seals are generally manufactured from milled gum silicone which offers superior resistance to tearing and deformation when compared to traditional liquid injection molding silicone.

Silicone rubber is generally non reactive, stable, and resistant to extreme environments and temperatures from -55°C to +300°C while still maintaining its useful properties. Due to these properties and its ease of manufacturing and shaping, silicone rubber can be found in a wide variety of products which include automotive applications used in cooking and baking, in food storage products, apparel such as sportswear and footwear, electronics and medical devices and implants and also in home repair and hardware with products such as platinum cured silicone sealants.
