WHAT MAKES SURREY BEND REGIONAL PARK SPECIAL?

Metro Vancouver and City of Surrey,Surrey Bend Regional Park Articles with support from the B.C. government, began acquisition of this 348 hectare park in 1995. Metro Vancouver will manage it as a regional park and the City of Surrey will continue to have an advisory role and participate in future planning.

Surrey Bend is part of a complex of parks and protected areas along the Fraser River. It features a great diversity of wetland types including a large bog, and ecologically significant floodplain forests, marshes and thickets which depend on tidal flows and seasonal flooding. Located near the centre of the park, Surrey Bend Bog is the third largest and relatively undisturbed bog (79 ha) in the Fraser Valley.

Most of the regional park is undisturbed, allowing the natural ebb and flow of water to help maintain these habitats.

Park visitors will enjoy new park facilities including:

  • Three reserve-able picnic shelters and picnic area

  • Over 2 km of new multi-use trails and 2 km of pedestrian/hiking trails

  • Nature discovery area
