Man has to learn the true definition of growth from trees as they grow for several hundred of years.......
What is growth? Who does not wants to grow? How one can grow? These are some of the question bother every one of us. The question is do people know the real definition of the growth and how it can be achieved. Even without any effort or energy expenditure, every one of us and so all living things on earth will grow, certainly grow old. Can anyone wish to call growing old to be growth?
Having all richness, wealth, respect and stature in the society or having a family etc. are some of the popularly accepted definitions of growth by most people. Regular & quick promotion with handsome increment and incentive is yet another definition of growth accepted by the corporate world. A position or respect that can create envy in the neighborhood is another popular meaning many people attach and considers as their true growth.
The growth requires two important dimensions. Every one must include and involve both these dimensions if they really aspire to grow in life. If one needs to understand those dimensions explicitly, one has to learn from a giant tree in the forest.
Trees grow big in size & live long and have been scientifically proven that trees live for even 1000 of years or more. How it is possible for a tree to grow so big so continuously? Growth occurs only at the periphery of every tree. The cells in the periphery continuously grow and that is how the girth of the tree increases. Interestingly, the centre of the wood (tree), otherwise called as ‘heartwood’ looses its life, accumulates various chemicals and simply offers only mechanical support.
All the giant trees have their heartwood dead at the centre. Growth is possible only at the periphery. The important insight the corporate man has to get from the above is that growth can happen only if the heart becomes dead! The inference may sound very unacceptable and funny, but that is the truth. The exact meaning one has to derive from the above reference is that only when one kills his or her ego, silly emotions and silly sentiments in the heart and stop them from interfering in the growth, real growth would occur. Like how the heartwood supports the trees to live long, the emotions should support the ‘process and the product’ of growth of a person without causing any influence or prejudice.
The other insight man has to learn is that the growth is possible only around the pre-existing realities. Growth in terms of knowledge is also possible only on the top of the existing knowledge. Existing knowledge should not resist but accept the new knowledge. The view is not supporting the total elimination of already existing knowledge or beliefs but the newer one should surround and encircle the pre-existing realities and ensure their support in a non interfering manner.
The growth also calls for quick and immediate healing of all the injuries that occur during the growth process. Any injury we inflict on trees, immediately heal and growth resumes. Growth needs tolerance and self healing ability instead of just reflecting and ruminate the injury or incident. Trees know this and that is why they are ever growing.
