• Write the steps: As you initiate troubleshooting, write each step down as you start. In this way, you can remember that you have done and can prevent the same mistakes. This helps when you also try asking help from some other people as you can inform that you have tried earlier.
• Take notes of the error messages: In case your computer shows error message, note it down. You can check with others if they also get such error and if so, how to get about it.
• Check the cables: Are you having computer hardware trouble relating to your keyboard or monitor? If so, first check the cables to see if they are connected properly.
• Restart the computer: When you notice nothing works, just restart the computer. This may solve basic issues to a great extent.

Simple solutions to general problems

Problem: Power button does not start computer

Solution 1: In case your computer fails to start, check the power cord to see if it is securely plugged securely into the computer case back and the power outlet.

Solution 2: In case, it is plugged to an outlet, ensure it is a working outlet. Check your outlet or plug in any other electrical device.

Solution 3: In case your computer is plugged in to a surge protector, ensure to turn it on. Put off and on the surge protector to reset and plug into another device to identify if it is working.

Solution 4: In case you are using a laptop, the battery charge must have drained. Plug the AC adapter and turn the laptop on. If it fails to start up, wait for few minutes and try again.

Problem: An application runs slow

Solution 1: Firstly, close and reopen the application.

Solution 2: Update the application and look for an option by clicking on Help to check Updates. Another option is to run for application updates an online search.

Problem: Frozen application

Sometimes an application gets stuck, or frozen. If so, you cannot click any button in the application or even close the window.

Solution 1: Quit the application by force, by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete on your keyboard. On a Mac, press or hold Command+Option+Esc. and end task to close.

Solution 2: If even force quit is not working, just restart the computer, it will close all the open apps.
