NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Hannover artist Clea von Döhren in Landscapes of the Mind. The exhibition will open on December 3, 2016 and run through December 23, 2016 with an opening reception on Thursday, December 8 from 6-8 PM.
The acrylic and mixed media paintings of Clea von Döhren blend the figurative with the abstract in expressively colored reflections of the moment. With an interest in Taoism, Jungian psychology, and Zen meditation, Clea wants her work to go beyond the construction of “reality” and find what exists behind the visible world. She describes her process as a sweeping away of her ego. One could say she uses the act of painting as a form of meditation, as it allows Clea to center herself and gain a deeper understanding of the essence of her world and surroundings.
A native of Germany, Clea has also published books of poetry and short stories, sculpted, and worked in several industries including advertising and education. Her strongest influence is nature, but she also takes inspiration from the work of Emil Schumacher, Pierre Soulages, Georgia O’Keeffe, Jeff Koons, and the expressionists. Whether portraying women, landscapes, planets, or concepts, Clea approaches subjects in new and experimental ways, playing with her viewer’s expectations to produce work that’s mysterious and alluring.

About the Exhibition
Landscapes of the Mind: A New World
Landscapes of the Mind, the new collective exhibition at Agora Gallery, highlights a select group of artists who have succeeded in presenting the natural beauty of the earth in a unique way. These six artists come from an astonishing geographic range - from Australia to Puerto Rico to Germany - and between them represent the earth, sea, and sky. There are dazzlingly detailed oil paintings of water flowing that completely engulf the viewer in the moment. There are birds in flight rendered as impressionistic dabs, simply color and movement and nothing else. There are images captured by camera that reach beyond travel photography to find precious, specific, hold-your-breath moments when the sun is at its most thrilling. You will also find nature as told by its animals: close-up paintings of bears, zebras, and lions, as thoughtful and probing as any human's portrait. This exhibition proves that there will always be something new to say about the wonders of the planet, as long as there are artists that pay attention.
