By the end of the night, all of the awards for the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards will be handed out and the winners (and some of the losers, as well) will be out whooping it up at various parties across Hollywood till who knows when. But what time do the Emmys themselves start?

This year's awards will feature Jimmy Kimmel hosting for the first time. Based on the ribbing he gives ABC during the network's annual upfronts presentation every May, you can expect Kimmel's act to be more mocking and less gentle than that of last year's host, Jane Lynch.

Outstanding supporting actor in a drama

Nominees: Aaron Paul, “Breaking Bad”; Giancarlo Esposito, “Breaking Bad”; Brendan Coyle, “Downton Abbey”; Jim Carter, “Downton Abbey”; Peter Dinklage, “Game of Thrones”; Jared Harris, “Mad Men”

Who will win: Dinklage dominated the second season of HBO’s epic adventure series with swagger, charisma and passion. Just as millions of viewers cheered on Tyrion Lannister as he became the most unlikely of war heroes, fans’ hearts simultaneously broke as his beloved character’s spirit was shattered by his ruthless family.

As the Emmys approach, it is time for all of the celebrities including the host of show to show off what they’ve got. Of course that means the host needs to look and feel their best for the show because they need to take all the attention off the award nominees.

The host for this year’s Emmys is non-other than Jimmy Kimmel. Last year he was able to steal the after party show with his hottie body exercise routine with different female actors. This year we have to see if he can out do his exercise videos that were made for his live television show.

In real life though what does Jimmy do to keep his male figure looking his best, besides watching all those female actors work their way slim. Maybe he can do more than talk his way to the top. He started his career as a radio host and from there he went to working on comedy central. He has also written and produced a feature film.

Who’s Going to Win: It appears nothing is going to stand in the way of a three-peat for Modern Family, in spite of whatever ill will might have been inspired by the cast’s poorly-timed (if brief) salary holdout. No series has yet stepped up to the plate to challenge the ABC half-hour in terms of sheer laughs. “I’m glad to see that funny is being rewarded in comedy again, instead of just how cool and artsy a show happens to be,” says one voter. Having a 2012 Golden Globe victory in its pocket (its first) and undiminished ratings doesn’t hurt Modern Family’s Emmy chances, either.

Then Again: It’s possible, if unlikely, that the Academy was so wowed by Lena Dunham and her HBO freshman buzzfest Girls that it snatches the gold away from Family. No other series would seem to have a genuine shot at the gold, but Girls has the kind of water-cooler cache that occasionally pulls an upset. It has undeniably become a popular culture phenom almost overnight. “I’m voting for Girls,” admits one producer, “just for its sheer bravery. We need to reward that kind of daring.”

The miniseries was filmed in Bucharest, Romania and then shifted post production to Deluxe Toronto, where all of the finishing work was completed. Deluxe Toronto is the leading service supplier for feature film and television post production in Canada and is a business unit of Deluxe Entertainment Services Group.

Awards season is just getting ready to gear up in the movie world, but awards show fanatics (if there are such creatures) don't have to wait for the new year to sit through a three hour-plus session of people winning things, because this Sunday brings the Emmy Awards, the annual celebration of the best/most popular/however you want to define it in television.

There was a time when movie stars would dismiss the idea of ever appearing on a TV show. Well, those days are over. Television is now such a popular medium that many film actors will gladly appear on the small screen. Not only do they get an opportunity to play interesting roles, but they also increase their odds of winning awards. Basically, if they don’t have a chance to win an Oscar, why not try for an Emmy?

Two local actors with successful movie careers were nominated for Emmys this year. Steve Buscemi has had a long and diverse film career, including roles in popular flicks like “The Big Lebowski,” “Reservoir Dogs” and “Fargo.” But only his portrayal of Nucky Thompson in the HBO drama “Boardwalk Empire,” now in its third season, has provided the Stone Ridge resident with award recognition.
