Recorded in the year 2008 and released in 2009,Fireflies: An Interesting Single of Owl City Articles ‘Fireflies’ by Ocean Eyes topped the charts of most of the countries of the globe in the same year as it was released. It was written by Adams Young and Matthew Thiessen, who also the guest vocalist in this very famous song. The baseline of the song is all about bugs that roam around happily, with not many worries and finding it hard to sleep at nights, ending up having sleepless nights. The video of the song comprises of novel scenes such as toys and other vintage play items filled in Adam Young’s bedroom and coming to life.

The artist describes his life when he sleeps. Starting with the ideas about over a ten thousand fireflies which would lit up the world, if he fell asleep and that they would leave teardrops everywhere because he is not awake to see them light the world up. He says, it’s better to stand up and watch them light the world rather than falling asleep. Then he talks about the earth, which is revolving around the sun. He traces that as he sleeps, the planet earth would revolve and turn around slowly, so it is worthy to stay up rather than sleeping because everything that happens in the night is not the same and might never happen again. Young talks about the hugs which those fireflies could give him while he sleeps, and teach him ballroom dance, hanging on a thread above him and beneath his bed. He also notes the quadruple timed sequence of dance movements, the foxtrots, which will be happening above his head while he is asleep.

The singer then believes that he is suffering from insomnia, which is sleeplessness at nights because of the fear he has about missing out on all the beautiful things around him while he sleeps. He says, he leaves the door open when he is asleep and he is not tired of falling asleep even after being tired of counting the number of sheep that he has. He concludes by explaining how much he dislikes bidding farewell to those ten thousand fireflies and just to ensure that he does not get bizarre dreams about them, he has caught a few fireflies in the jar. The song overall, talks about not falling asleep and admiring the beautiful fireflies which could lead to sleeplessness.
