RC helicopter applications

RC helicopters work using radio signals transmitted from a remote control handled by the controller. The remote control is fitted with the transmitter and an antenna. The helicopter is then fitted with a receiver that receives the radio signals and registers the required commands. Powering systems differ depending on the design and make of the helicopter. Currently, users have power selections including nitro, gasoline, electric battery and gas turbine, with nitro and electric powered RC helicopters being the most common. As mentioned above the used of RC helicopters have so far spread beyond being a toy or for hobby’s sake. The various applications that have over the decades required the assistance of RC helicopters include low altitude sky photography, policing, filming, spy camera operations and remote inspection and observation.

Low altitude aerial photography is the capturing of images and pictures from a low angle within the range of a few hundred meters from the ground. This helps to capture a bird’s eye view of large cities, farm fields, airports, seaports, super highways and small towns. Low altitude aerial photography is used to produce different types of photographs including oblique photographs, vertical photographs, orthophotos and combinations, all of which have been used in geography as well as science. Filming has also seen much improvement over the years with high definition photographs and videos being taken from low altitude levels with much accuracy, a case that was not possible before. This is possible by mounting a camera below the RC helicopter that is then controlled by a trained user. RC helicopters are quite convenient in narrow corridor chases of action scenes where a real helicopter cannot fit.  Police work has also been made much more efficient with the help of RC helicopters which can be used to track down gang hide outs and other forms of crime. Considering that the helicopters are bulky at times and may also cause a lot of commotion, RC helicopters are some of the best for a quiet and unnoticed approach.

Remote observation and inspection involves using equipment that can be operated from a distance. This may be due to hazardous material that may cause harm to a person. Such cases include the disarmament of live bombs, approaching tornados so as to get scientific including temperature and wind speed. The most advanced remote observation operations include studies on other planets and on the moon, which have been successful with the aid of RC helicopters.
