More and more forward thinking people are focusing on ways to reduce their carbon footprint.  They want to have a positive impact in environment they live.  That is the very reason people need to understand the impact of electricity generation on the environment.  It's a fact:  Residential electricity generated by fossil fuels is the third largest contributor of carbon dioxide emissions in the US.Electricity is a basic part of nature and it is one of our most widely used forms of energy.  While it's possible to generate electricity in many "green" ways the number one source of US electricity is coal.  In 2006,Electricity and it's Dirty Secret Articles nearly half (49%) of the country's 4.1 trillion kilowatt hours of electricity used coal as its source of energy.  In fact many power companies still don't offer consumers the choice of using 100% renewable energy even for higher rate.So what does that translate into for the average household?  The electricity product for a US home, using an average of 9,000 kilowatt hours a year, has the same impact on the environment as driving 13,392 miles or chopping down 50 trees. The key to stopping this snowball effect is knowledge.  If people understand the "hard cost" of the resources they utilize, they can make better informed decisions.  They can choose to conserve and they can choose to cut back on their energy consumption.Lots of small steps combine together to make a big impact.  So what can you do?  Remember to turn off your lights and use re-usable (or just re-use) shopping bags.  If you can afford to then switch to more energy efficient appliances and lighting.   Try adding energy saving devices such as the Cool-N-Save(tm) Air Conditioning Pre-Cooling System.  The Cool-N-Save(tm) is a good example of a low cost way you can reduce the amount of electricity you consume. In the average home it's either the cooling or the heating system that is responsible for the lions share of electricity consumption - which system it is depends largely on where you live.  In the hottest months an AC system can consume up to 90% of your monthly electricity.  Cool-N-Save(tm) acts in concert with your existing AC to pre-cool the air, improve AC efficiency and thus reduce your AC electricity needs by up to 30%.Remember stopping climate change starts at home and it isn't going to be a single step but rather many small steps by many different people.
