Prejudice against any particular people— whether because of their religion, their color, or their race—is contrary to the teaching of the Christian Church, and therefore a true Christian cannot be anti-Semitic, but nevertheless anti-Semitism has existed for many years and in many countries.

This is chiefly because in most countries the Jews have been a small group living in the midst of a much larger group. A small group of this sort is called a minority. It is quite usual to find prejudice against minority groups. In places where most of the people are Protestants, there is often prejudice against Catholics, and in some countries today where most of the people are Catholics there is prejudice against Protestants. Intelligent and educated people are not anti-Semitic, but a skillful and dishonest politician can often arouse great hatred of Jews among ignorant people. In Germany, Adolf Hitler created so much hatred of Jews that he caused the German people to rob and murder millions of them.
