National Bike Month Prompts Tour of Long Beach

There are many family bonding activities available and since National Bike Month is here, why not try Tour of France. A bike ride open to cyclists of all skill levels. Its a ride that even the mayor plans to participate.

National Bike Month is here,National Bike Month Prompts Tour of Long Beach  Articles and with it comes Tour of Long Beach. It’s a chance for families to prepare together and train for a ride that that will include the participation of the mayor.

Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster has begun his training and encourages families to do so as well. He biked to work on Wednesday. There are many ways a person can exercise, but bicycling is the mayor’s choice. To prepare for the event, the mayor makes an attempt to ride approximately 100 miles weekly.  A person must put in the work to get fit and stay fit.

“This is cycling to work day, so we are trying to demonstrate to everyone that it’s a good thing to ride your bike to work,” Foster said. “It’s better for your health, better for the environment, and an easy thing to do.”

He added that the event, scheduled for May 11, being part of National bicycle month works in line with their event and their aims to promote the use of bicycles.  So far, at least 3,200 people have signed up to participate in this citywide fitness movement.

Mayor Foster told reporters that the Tour will benefit Miller Children’s Hospital. All of the proceeds are planned to go to the pediatric oncology unit.

Cyclists of all skill levels are encouraged to attend the Tour of Long Beach event, which will be held next Saturday. 

There are various skill rides available for those participating. They are encouraging amateur cyclists as well as bicycle enthusiasts to go to the race. Riders can choose from a 31-mile open course, a 4-mile Family Fun Ride, or the 100-mile Cruz Gran Fondo ride. The longest ride will loopthrough Long Beach then head south down the Southern California Coast through Sunset Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach.

From now until the day of the race riders who wish to train have the option to meet up with U.S. Olympian and professional cyclist Tony Cruz. This training is aimed to help those attacking the 31-mile Tour, 62-mile Metric Century or 100-mile Cruz Gran Fondo, get started. Every Sunday now through May 11 at 8am any cyclist at any level can join Tony to get conditioned for the main event.

Those wishing to participate can still register. More information regarding the race, such as news and directions, registration, etc., should check out the event’s website.  Remember, if you decide to participate, don’t forget to wear your helmet!
