As someone who left the UK 6 years ago to live elsewhere, I feel I can answer the question to this article with comparative ease. Having said that, everyone is different and we all want different things out of life. I moved away from the UK for a number of reasons, the main one being that I was completely fed up with “working to live” as oppose to “living to work”.

What I mean by this statement is that whilst I had a good job which paid well (and this was back in 2006),Why Would You Move from the UK to Europe? Articles I was working in excess of 45-50 hours a week and this sometimes included weekends. I started to ask myself “when do I ever get the time to enjoy the money I’m making”.

This question fell heavily upon me, and by chance I was talking to someone at a party who was eager to tell me they had just found their place in the sun on mainland Europe and was off to sunnier climes in the next few weeks. This prompted me to do a little research of my own. I have to say, I was nervous about this but felt that doing some internet research from the comfort of my own home really wouldn’t hurt.

It didn’t take long before I discovered a whole new world. When you live in the UK, travelling to Europe isn’t difficult and many of us decide to take our holidays there, however living in Europe is a completely different prospect. By joining forums and other social networking sites, it soon became apparent to me that British people who had moved away from the UK were enjoying a life which appeared to be way more fulfilled than my own.

Don’t get me wrong, I am proud to be British and will tell anyone that my roots are important to me but at the end of the day, isn’t it more important that you can enjoy life to the full? Of course, there were many discussions with family and friends about what I was planning and my husband, I have to say, soon got the “let’s move to Europe” bug. We did a lot of research and thought about all of the reasons why we would move there.

In the end, and I must stress we are now in 2012 and this was back in 2006, we decided that Europe was the answer. Lifestyles in many countries there are much more laid back, the climate is friendlier and the cost of living is far lower than the UK. I have now been happily living in Spain for the past 3 years, prior to that I was in France.

I believe that my life has become more enriched and I am able to speak with confidence about the different cultures between these two beautiful countries. If you’re reading this and feel a little fire growing in your belly then this article has done exactly what I intended.

The only piece of advice I will give you is make sure you do your home work. I am a success story but there have been many twists and turns along the way. Don’t take a decision to move to Europe based on what one article tells you. It took my husband and I many months to make our final decision but I have to say I’m glad we took the plunge.
