7 Ways to Reinvent Yourself When You're Feeling Lost

Feeling lost is an evitable part of life. It comes with the territory of being human. Being human is an adventure of a lifetime and comes with its fair shares of ups and downs. Like Gabrielle,Guest Posting Williams says without the bad, how would have we learned to appreciate the good.

The hard times in our lives make us stronger. They teach us that we can withstand anything that comes our way. When we feel lost, we feel as though we don’t know who we are. In psychology, it is called positive disintegration. 

Positive disintegration means when our personality starts to disintegrate, and we feel like we cannot relate to the person we used to be. We feel lost, and we don’t like the same things we used to before. The movies, the songs, the friends, and the food we used to like before – now we don’t. 

It’s as if the old us is falling away, and we have not yet met the new us, and so we are left in between feeling lost and confused. And as great masters teach us, such a time is a blessing. Such a time, even though it feels hard, is a time when we can reinvent ourselves so a new ‘us’ can emerge. 

Here are 7 ways you can reinvent yourself when you are feeling lost and shine through like the sun.


Feel everything

This is perhaps one of the most essential things in the process of reinventing ourselves. We can do many things to reinvent ourselves like living a yogic lifestyle, eating healthy, helping others, etc. but if we don’t feel everything within us, it can lead us to feel stuck.

Feelings are the language of the soul. When we are feeling lost, our soul is our best guide. But how do we listen to our soul? Our feelings are trying to tell us something. They are trying to guide us and give us a message, but too often, we suppress what we feel and don’t listen to the wisdom of our soul. 

So, in this time, when you feel lost, feel everything, all the feelings that might arise within you. Whether the emotions are negative or positive, feel them all. As Lyla June says, “Feeling is healing.” When we feel everything, we can heal and begin to break free from that which was keeping us stuck and lost.

Feeling lost is our soul trying to get our attention that something needs to change for the better. Will you listen? Will you let yourself feel everything? Will you listen to the voice of your soul?


Yoga and Meditation

Leading a yogic lifestyle can help us with feeling peaceful and connected to our bodies. Yoga, which includes yogic postures known as asanas, breathwork known as pranayama, and meditation known as Dhyana, can help us deeply. 

The yoga asanas help with purifying the body of old emotions and energies, and breathwork helps in cleansing our breath, which is the primal divine energy. Meditation can help us focus on our breath and connect with our inner being.

We feel lost because we are not connected to our true selves, and these spiritual practices help us feel connected to life and ourselves. 


Change your diet

Many great men and women have said that “you are what you eat” and “tell me what you eat, and I’ll tell you who you are.”

What we consume affects the state of our mind and body. In Ayurveda and yoga, they say there are three different kind of food Satvic – light and pure foods, Rajasic – stimulating foods, and tamasic foods – low vibrational foods like junk foods. 

Junk food is low vibrational, dense, and makes our energy heavier. This further leads to confusion. Eating sattvic food, which is also part of the yogic lifestyle, can help keep our energy pure and light, which can bring in the clarity that we need. 

It’s amazing what happens when we change our diet. It’s a simple change to make, but the results are exceptionally helpful. If the food we eat is healthy and nourishing, we start to feel more connected, nourished, peaceful, aware, and alive.


Unplug from technology 

We live in a technologically advanced age where we spend a lot of our time on phones, laptops, screens, etc. Even though these devices help and serve a certain purpose, too much of it can cause a disconnection of the mind and body.

When we feel connected to our bodies, we feel peaceful and alive. Excessive use of technology causes us to feel disconnected and feeling more lost. Disconnect and unplug from technology for a while.

Rent a cabin in a forest or near a beach and spend some time with yourself, reading books, meditating, doing yoga, cooking healthy food. Do anything that helps you connect with your body and soul and unplug from things that keep you in your head instead of the body, leaving you feeling disconnected. 

As Reggie Ray, a Buddhist meditation teacher, says, “The body is the source of the sacred.” So, reconnecting to the wisdom of the body is essential in reinventing yourself when you are feeling lost. 

If you are staying in the city, unplug from technology for 2-3 hours a day and plug into the present moment with meditation, yoga, dance, or anything that makes you feel alive. 



When we are feeling lost, and nothing makes sense, helping others lights up our soul. As Rabindranath Tagore says, “I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.”

When we help others with no intention of receiving anything in return, we can understand the meaning and purpose of life. You can volunteer at an animal center if you love animals or at an old age home if you like connecting with old people. When we look beyond our own problems and go out to help someone, sometimes our problems are solved in the process.

Volunteering and helping others can give you the perspective and heart expansion you need to reinvent yourself when you are feeling lost. 


Seek out help

When we are feeling lost, it can feel lonely and feel as though we are all alone in our battles. The feeling of aloneness is not wrong as many of us feel this and is a natural part of the process when we are feeling lost.

This is the perfect time to reach out for help for guidance from a counsellor, a trusted friend, or a trusted family member. We are all here to support each in our tough times, and it always helps to share what we are feeling with someone we trust. 

We don’t have to do it all alone, and seeking out help is a beautiful and sometimes essential thing we have to do when we want to reinvent ourselves. 


Go to Mother Nature

Mother Nature never lets anyone go empty-handed. She loves everyone equally and nourishes everyone with her fruits, vegetables, oceans, rivers, and mountains. Spend some time in nature and let yourself feel the love of mother earth.

Mother earth is a living being just like us, and she can hear us and feel us. Spending some quiet time in nature every day will help in feeling more connected to life and can give you a fresh perspective to reinvent yourself when you are feeling lost. 

As George Santayana says, “The earth has its music for those who will listen.”


A Few Words to Sum it Up

Feeling lost and confused is a life-changing moment. It is the time life gives us the opportunity to become better, kind, and more authentic than we were before. We can navigate this hard with grace if we remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
